At the request of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Government of Pakistan, PAC CEO Mr. Kazim M. Saeed briefed Federal Minister MNFSR Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain and Secretary MNFSR Mr. Amir Mohiuddin on the Electronic Warehouse Receipt (EWR) ecosystem, in particular, on how it can help farmers gain financial access and retain ownership of their wheat until they consider prices suitable for them to sell. Pakistan Agricultural Coalition has worked since 2017 on conceiving, piloting, developing, and operationalizing the EWR regime with key partners, Government, donors, and farmers.
Mr. Kazim Saeed proposed that the Government announce a three-year program for expansion of a network of modern warehouses across the country operated by the private sector with digital trading of EWRs on Pakistan Mercantile Exchange Limited – PMEX. This ecosystem is critical to ensure transparency and visibility of agri-commodity stocks and for ensuring that the interests of farmers are served first.
